Rebekah Wilson, Software Developer
Thanks to her work being completely based online, she's
been fortunate enough to have had the opportunity to live in over
10 countries in the last decade, speak a few languages badly and to
have met with and learned from the engineers of some of most
premier sound stages and studios around the world including Abbey
Road, Skywalker Sound, Technicolor, Disney and Warner Brothers and
our own stunning Park Road Post. Working daily with international
voice talent, studios and musicians helps her to understand and
serve the direct needs of remote production and recording: and what
started with a focus on sound is now an increasing interest in
high-fidelity transmission of both image and sound for the purposes
of real-time collaboration
With an unwavering belief in the potential for technology
to improve our lives through increasingly sophisticated means of
communication, she worked to bring wireless communications to
stricken eastern Christchurch after the 2011 earthquake. She is
also a fierce advocate for women and girls in technology, hosting
New Zealand's first RailsGirls programming workshop in Christchurch
in 2013 and consulting with numerous non-profits around the globe
for best practices in digital efficiency.
Work-wise, her current technical goals are to both
continue making the tools more accessible - especially for
education purposes - and more sophisticated as her work continues
to lead the way forward for sound and film studios to work remotely
with each other in real-time with security and stability. The magic
of sound and science combined has kept the spark alive: and to give
structure to her experience as a developer of remote possibilities,
she's returned in 2016 to Victoria University to do her Masters in
Composition to complete her thesis on Telematic Music, i.e. playing
music together over the Internet in Real-Time.
