Tanya Wheeler, Screenwriter
Developing her screenwriting with the aid of seminars and
workshops run by Script to Screen, WIFT and the NZWG, the
by-product of her creative insomnia has been a long list of
features, TV series pilots and short films. Writer-for-hire and
script editing work quickly followed, as well as trips to Los
Angeles to attend Screenwriting Conferences and Pitching
Events.
Getting involved with director and producer team, Lennie and
Tania Hill, proved to be a turning point in acquiring film credits
on a number of short films that were selected for Film Festivals.
The short film Footsteps, written by Tanya, screened at
the NZIFF 2014. For the past two years, she has also been a guest
lecturer in storytelling, script development and screenwriting at
AUT.
Workshops and seminars organised by WIFT and Script to Screen
have played a huge role in helping Tanya gain access to networking
and learning opportunities and she praises events like the Jeff
Gomez Transmedia Conference and the Big Screen Symposium as being
both inspiring and broadening as a screenwriter.
Tanya is still keen to get more of her own slate of creative
projects off the ground. In this business, she says you end up
being a producer, as well as a writer, out of necessity because it
is hard to find a great working partnership. She has found that
WIFT members have been the most generous and supportive and looks
forward to finding a producer partner-in-crime.
