So The Hobbit's staying. Officially. All the parties agree on that much. And everybody's happy. (Although some are happier than others.) If you haven't tired of reading about The Hobbit by now, or seen this tidy dissection of the whole drama by Gordon Campbell, hop on over to his blog.

  1. Thanks WIFT for loading this. I've been trying to find some kind of analysis I could make sense of that didn't just vilify actors - good on Actors Equity trying to draw attention to conditions and BOO to John Key for using the deal with Warners to turn actors working on productions into contractors.

And boo to the media who have done a shoddy job of reporting on the issue, not really clarifying what is at stake and allowing Robyn Malcolm and Jennifer W-L to bear the brunt of a lot of negativity.

Good on you women for fighting a good fight and for stepping up for what you think is right.

And if you're a techie, think about the fact that if there were the same constraints put on commercials in terms of use of actors as in Australia there would probably be more work here for everyone.

Lastly, the current emergency legislation, which was really unnecessary, is going to affect people across this industry and possibly others.
