ON LOCATION: A NZFC workshop answering the big questions.

One of the most varied and interesting jobs in the business is that of the location scout/manager. It is a vital role and helps the production identify locations to match the creative and practical elements a successful shoot requires.

WHO - People keen to improve their expertise and knowledge of best-practice location research, scouting, planning and management will benefit from this free workshop.

WHY - Producers have highlighted the need to increase the number of experienced location scouts and managers available to work on local and offshore commercials, television series and feature films.

WHEN - Wellington Saturday 3 December and Auckland Saturday 10 December.

WHAT - These sessions have been developed by Sally Sherratt in collaboration with other highly experienced location scouts and the New Zealand Film Commission, regional film offices, key government agencies and others.

Workshops will include:

WHERE TO SHOOT

Understanding a creative brief

Effective research, scouting and filing

Identifying suitable locations

Shooting a quality location photograph

Delivering presentations

HOW TO MANAGE IT

Permit processes for agencies such as: district and regional councils, LTSA,  DOC

Iwi liaison

Negotiation and relationship building

Basecamp set-up

Health and Safety Considerations

Drones

attach one .jpg of a proposed location photograph you have taken

outline why you consider it to be an ideal filming location and for what describe how you would get approval to film there

CV, list of credits or other relevant work experience and;

your contact details and which city you wish to attend in, Auckland or Wellington

NB: Places are limited and will be allocated at the NZFC's discretion. All workshop participants will be notified of placement by 21 November. Mentorships and work experience opportunities may be supported for selected participants.

A small travel allowance may be available for people located outside of Auckland and Wellington.
