We're in favour of any event that highlights the awesome work
done by women in our industry, so this August 23 event (yep, that's
this Wednesday!) looks like one to be at.
Held at Ngā Taonga in Wellington, the evening will look beyond
limiting stereotypes, celebrate the mana of Māori women and
acknowledge the many contributions Māori women have made in
Aotearoa.
The Wāhine Toi Whakaata - Panel Discussion is in association
with Wāhine: Beyond the 'dusky maiden'
exhibition (co-curated by Catherine Bisley). You
can look forward to silent material from Ngā Taonga's film
collections (with live taonga puoro accompaniment), as well as a
panel discussion on representation of Māori women on screen led by
Dr Arini Loader. Panelists include Nancy Brunning and Mīria
George.
