The invitation is out - the Austin Film Festival wants WIFT NZ members to submit their work for their 2026 Film Competitions.
With a mission centered on spotlighting independent filmmakers, AFF welcomes submissions across nine competitive categories. These include our Academy Award®–qualifying Animated Short, Documentary Short, and Narrative Short competitions, as well as genre-focused categories such as Comedy Vanguard (celebrating outstanding comedic work) and Dark Matters (dedicated to thrillers and horror), among others.
Known as the “Writers Festival” since its founding more than 33 years ago, Austin Film Festival places storytelling at the heart of filmmaking. By championing creators who craft compelling narratives, richly developed characters, and diverse perspectives, AFF continues to build its reputation as a festival that truly supports and celebrates the storyteller. Happening every October, along with AFF’s famous Writers Conference.
As a special offer, WIFT NZ members can use the code 10AFF2026 to receive $10 off submission fees. Early deadlines begin as soon as March 27, so we encourage filmmakers to submit early and save. Submissions are now open via FilmFreeway at https://filmfreeway.com/AustinFilmFestival.
If you have any questions, would like more detailed information about the opportunities for your members available through AFF, or talk about a deeper bulk submission discounts for your members, the festival would love to connect.
