Film and Literature Board of Review Nominations

Hon Nathan Guy, Minister responsible for appointing members to the Film and Literature Board of Review, is inviting nominations of suitably qualified people to be appointed to this Board.

The Board is a statutory appeal body, established to review the classification of publications referred to it under the Act. The Board examines the publications - including films, video recordings, DVDs, books, magazines and computer based material. Nominees will be able to process publications which may be sexually explicit, violent, sensitive or controversial without undue distress. The Governor General appoints members for a term not exceeding three years.

Skills and attributes required:

  • At least one member must have held a practicing certificate as a barrister or solicitor for least seven years
  • Members should have experience of applying statutory provisions; or/and experience of sitting on or appearing before statutory tribunals
  • Members should have knowledge of, or experience in, matters that are likely to come before the Board
    • Have a wide understanding of New Zealand society and social trends
    • Nominees with Maori, Pasifika and/or Asian links would complement current membership.

Proposed appointees are required to complete a personal and financial probity declaration
