Digital distribution debated by filmmakers

WIFT NZ member Gaylene Preston, who made War Stories Our Mothers Never Told Us and Perfect Strangers, has spoken out about the challenges filmmakers face in the shift to digital distribution.  Speaking at a Digital Cinema Symposium at Victoria University in Wellington, Preston discussed the impact of digital technology on the screen industry with local director Geoff Murphy and cinematographer Alex Funke.  Both Murphy and Preston deplored the drastic consolidation and tight control in film distribution, while Funke argued that the dominance of distributors was waning.  Read more on their debate in the Dominion Post.
