Posted Wednesday 10 Feb 2010

The proportion of women directors, executive producers, producers, writers, cinematographers, and editors working on American films has declined in the past decade, according to Dr. Martha M. Lauzen, a professor at San Diego State University.  WIFT NZ has received an advance copy of Dr Lauzen's study, 'The Celluloid Ceiling: Behind-the-Scenes Employment of Women on the Top 250 Films of 2009', which reveals that in the past year the percentage of women working as writers dropped from 12% to 8%, and the percentage of women working as directors declined from 9% to 7%.  A copy of the key findings of the report can be downloaded here.
