The proportion of women directors, executive producers, producers, writers, cinematographers, and editors working on American films has declined in the past decade, according to Dr. Martha M. Lauzen, a professor at San Diego State University. WIFT NZ has received an advance copy of Dr Lauzen's study, 'The Celluloid Ceiling: Behind-the-Scenes Employment of Women on the Top 250 Films of 2009', which reveals that in the past year the percentage of women working as writers dropped from 12% to 8%, and the percentage of women working as directors declined from 9% to 7%.
