The NZ Film Commission Responds to the Review

Posted Tuesday 13 Jul 2010

The NZFC released a press release on Thursday July 1st in response to its review. In the release the Commission says that it welcomed the suggestions for improvements proposed by Sir Peter Jackson and David Court in the review and Patsy Reddy, the NZFC Board Chair said that "the Board is pleased to have such a strong affirmation of the importance of the Film Commission's role." In regards to suggestions made in the review, Reddy says that these will be reviewed with the Minister "in the context of our requirement to get best value for public money."

Reddy did show concern that the report indicated that some people in the industry see the Commission as a barrier to their filmmaking aspirations, "It's a tough position we're in, there's never enough money to go around. But we believe we can do better. We have already been talking to filmmakers during the course of this review about ways to improve our work with them." Reddy goes on to state that many of the changes suggested are already being addressed under the leadership of a new CEO and Chair and that the Board and Staff will be focussing on how best "to develop a long term game plan which takes account of the Report's recommendations to focus on identifying, supporting and rewarding talent."
