Discussion around Bigelow's Best Director award

Posted Monday 22 Mar 2010

WIFT's last e-news went out before the Best Director Oscar was presented, and since then there has been plenty of talk of this historic moment that took place on International Women's Day.  Kathryn Bigelow won the Academy Award for Direction, for the film The Hurt Locker, which also picked up golden statues for Best Film, Original Screenplay, Sound Editing, Sound Mixing, and Film Editing.  Watch Bigelow's acceptance speech. As well as celebrating this momentous occasion, a number of journalists are using Bigelow's win to highlight that there is still a long way to go for women in the industry. To read more on this subject, visit the Women and Hollywood blog, which has extensively explored the post-Bigelow win debate, this article in the LA Times, and for a local take, see WIFT NZ member Marian Evans' online discussion.

WIFT NZ, in assocation with Roadshow Film Distributors, is offering members the chance to attend exclusive pre-release free screenings of Bigelow's groundbreaking film The Hurt Locker in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch in March.
