Sofia Coppola took home the Golden Lion for best film at the Venice International Film Festival for her film Somewhere. The film is a comic drama about "a bad-boy actor who's stumbling through a life of Hollywood excess, until his adolescent daughter comes to live with him." Coppola based the film on her own upbringing as the daughter of Francis Ford Coppola who she thanked for teaching her as part of her acceptance speech.
