WIFT member Jacqui Wood shared some great news with us last week - she won the recent AUT creative writing short screenplay comp. Jacqui's email also helped reinforce how valuable it is to have established practitioners sharing their knowledge with newcomers to the industry, saying "...(AUT's) PR writer asked the pertinent question about 'inspiration,' and I remembered the workshop run by Merata Mita and hosted by WIFT and Ng? Aho Whakaari that I flew up to Auckland for a few years ago. At this workshop Merata turned on my lightbulb with her views about not using a short film to push your personal agenda, but instead finding a way for it to be told through strong characters and an engaging story.
To this truly awesome woman, greatly missed, I attribute the win of my screenplay Still."
