World Cinema Showcase: Films By Women

Posted Thursday 07 Apr 2011

The World Cinema Showcase is underway now in Auckland, and from next week in Wellington (Dunedin, sorry, you need to wait a few more weeks till May), so we thought you might like to know particularly about these inclusions in the showcase with female filmmakers.

OPERATION 8 This NZ documentary will have its world premiere at the Showcase. Wellingtonian Abi King-Jones is the producer and has collaborated closely with director Errol Wright to bring this immediately relevant film about the Tuhoe raids to NZ screens.
SAGAN French feature on the infamous Francoise Sagan from director Diane Kurys. Stars Sylvie Testud in a career-defining performance as the troubled artist.
WASTE LAND Academy Award nominated documentary from British filmmaker Lucy Walker.
FREAKONOMICS - director Rachel Grady and Heidi Ewing (Jesus Camp) direct a chapter on incentivising underachieving kids to learn with cold hard cash. This documentary is based on the international bestseller from Stephen Dubner and Steven Levitt.
Tickets are on sale now in Auckland through Ticketek, Wellington from the Paramount and Dunedin from the Rialto.
Also, don't forget that WIFT members receive the "film society" price for Showcase tickets - you just need to show your ID at the box office when purchasing tickets (unable to process this online with Ticketek unfortunately).
