The autumn NZFF companion event, the 13th World Cinema Showcase, will open up its doors in March. Ahead of then, naturally, come the programme announcements. The opening salvo focuses on documentaries.
The only documentary to make it to the final five for the Oscars not seen in last year's NZFF, Tim Hetherington and Sebastian Junger's Restrepo, makes an appearance. Another of the final five, Lucy Walker's Wasteland, did screen at the NZFF but gets an encore outing. The other four films announced are writer-director Janus Metz' Armadillo, Richard Press' Bill Cunningham New York, Davis Guggenheim's Waiting for Superman and John Scheinfeld's Who Is Harry Nilsson?
The World Cinema Showcase will screen at the Academy and Victoria, Auckland, 31 March - 20 April; the Paramount, Wellington, 14 - 27 April; Rialto, Christchurch, 28 April - 12 May; and Rialto, Dunedin, 6 - 18 May. More information on titles and screenings as announced will be available here.
