Lectureship/Senior Lectureship Media Studies, Wellington

Posted Tuesday 28 Jun 2011

Applications are invited for a Lectureship/Senior Lectureship within the Media Studies programme specialising in media practice, at Massey University, Wellington Campus.
Media practice includes constructing and conveying meaning through media texts, critical reflection on that process, and conceptual understanding of the social, cultural and political contexts of media production and reception. Preference may be given to a candidate who specialises in digital screen production (including documentary, narrative, and experimental film) and/or new media practice.
Media practice is situated within the Media Studies programme which also includes undergraduate courses in film studies, television, popular culture, advertising, trauma and the media, visual culture, new media, stardom and celebrity, independent media, and media ecology. An ability to contribute to these areas, and particularly to the first-year introduction to Media Studies course, may be an advantage.
The graduate programme focuses on media theory and research methods, and has a strong research-based emphasis. The successful candidate will be expected in time to develop media practice teaching at this level, and to undertake supervision of students engaging in creative media research.
