A Couple More Things You Can Do to Help Women and Children in Christchurch

Posted Tuesday 08 Mar 2011

There are some fantastic fundraising efforts out there at the moment, but we'd like to specifically draw your attention to two this week which are geared towards women and children in the Canterbury region.

First up, Janette Howe of Caravan Productions has set up this initiative on Facebook to help Christchurch babies and mums. She's getting together baby things - clothes, blankets, and woollen knitwear etc to send to mums with new babies in ChCh. She says "The thought is that it's hard for new Mums at any time, and at this time there will be fewer support services and less friends and family support with everyone in transit or trying to get back on their feet. I know the call is for cash first, but hope this is also a way people can help by pulling out some of those extra baby things they might have stashed away, or even knitting something for the cause!"

Conroy Removals have agreed to take whatever she collects down for free.

Next up is a worthwhile appeal run by the Auckland YWCA. They're raising funds for their sister YWCA in Christchurch to help them continue their community programmes for women at this time of need, and are working with Claire at  The-Collection', www.the-collection.co.nz, the designer charity auction site, who will sell good quality clothes on the site and donate 100% of the sales to the YWCA Christchurch.

You can help over the next few weeks by dropping off any 'label' clothes (shoes and accessories too) to the YWCA  office at level 1, 4-6 Dundonald St, Newton.
