RETHiNK Grant: Call for Applications

Posted Tuesday 22 Mar 2011

The RETHiNK Grant has $15 000 to share amongst 1 - 3 creative projects that work to promote positive understandings of mental health issues and the people who experience them.
RETHiNK Grant is part of the Like Minds, Like Mine project at Mind and Body Consultants Inc. Like Minds, Like Mine is a national project, funded by the Ministry of Health that aims to reduce stigma and discrimination experienced by people who have had mental unwellness.
Mental unwellness affects 47% of the NZ population by the time they reach 75 years of age. This means everyone in the country will have either direct or indirect experience of mental unwellness. Stigma and discrimination have been shown to be the biggest barriers to recovery.
RETHiNK Grant aims to get the community involved in creating social change in this area by funding relevant creative projects that allow members of the community to interact with a positive mental health message in an entertaining and dynamic way.
The organisers are looking for projects that will reach a large Auckland audience with the Like Minds, Like Mine message that mental unwellness is common, understandable and possible to recover from.
Previous projects have come from the creative fields of poetry, visual art, design, installation, stand-up comedy and community theatre.  More information about the kinds of projects they are seeking this year is available on the website at www.rethink.org.nz and is listed on the front of the application form.
Applications close on 30 April, with recipients announced 30 May.
