SOCIAL NETWORKING NEW MEDIA Sessions 1 was held in Wellington at the Film School following the announcement of the RLS. A very interesting discussion was begun with some opening visual stats on the numbers of people participating across Face Book, Twitter, and the Web in general - Social Media Revolution 2 (Refresh).
(Social Media Revolution 2 is a refresh of the original video (http://www.socialnomics.com) with new and updated social media & mobile statistics that are hard to ignore. Based on the book
Socialnomics by Erik Qualman. ) Although already a year old these statistics were incredibly
insightful and almost scary!
Robin Laing chaired the panel asking 'How Much is Too Much' of Producers Ainsley Gardner and Vicky Pope who were joined by publicists Sue May and Anna Dean, with JASMIN McSweeney from the NZFC.
They all provided us with information on how they promoted their films online and where they were trying to take them - The 'How Much is too Much' question didn't seem to be the issue. Sue was adamant not to treat FB friends as real, but a way to get your information and publicity out to the target market and beyond. They all agreed the market has changed enormously in just the last 3 years.
Boy was the first NZ film to really hit the net virally, but the NZFC said all films won't work this way and producers and distributors still choose their strategies. Two Little Boys is well on its way
via FB. Although not being released till early 2012, Anna is keeping the information flowing while maintaining the profile and interest.
We were delighted to see so many of you and the students attending. Again we'd like to thank the panelists for their time and energy; its greatly appreciated. A special thanks to Tommy Honey for his continued support of WIFT NZ from the Film School.
Please diary in the 2nd session - 'Building Business on the Net', Wednesday 1st June from 6pm at the Film School.
