We have two tickets to give away to the next TAKES Short Film Festival, which happens monthly at Nectar bar in Kingsland. To be in to win, just tell us what country TAKES started up in. (Hint: the answer's in the blurb.)
TAKES screens films that are original, daring and captivating, showing short films from all over the globe, with a vision to stretch audiences to see the world from a different perspective. TAKES launched in London in 2008 and was the brainchild of Jessica Joy Wood, co-director of Last Night Productions. After co-ordinating a short film night for a New Zealand Festival in London she realised the wealth of short films out there screaming for somewhere to be seen. Jess and partner Carl Dixon decided to create a platform for up and coming filmmakers to showcase their work. They sent out a call for films and after an overwhelming response started the evening in a North London pub. It was (and remains) a bit of a number 8 wire affair with Carl mastering the technical side and Jess heading the presentation, and the evening soon developed a cult following.
After returning to NZ in 2010 TAKES has found a new home at the lovely Nectar Bar in Kingsland. TAKES screens every third Wednesday of the month - you can come grab a wine, a tasty platter, sink into a comfy sofa and enjoy carefully selected films.
Next TAKES: Wed 16 November 2011 @NECTAR (above The Kingslander) upstairs at 472 New North Road, Kingsland. Doors open at 7.30pm films kick off at 8pm.
