WIFT makes mark at Tropfest

A Kiwi Legend, produced by new comer and new WIFT  member Tess Novak has won the  Tropfest NZ 2013 Viewer's Choice Award.  The inaugural festival was held in New Plymouth on January 26th .

Novak says the film has had over 7000 views so far. "It's fantastic to see it reach an audience beyond the amazing crowd on the night," she says.  At present Novak is marketing the film ("hundreds of emails!" and exploring possible submissions into other festivals.

She is also looking for a job, after graduating with Arts and Commerce degrees.

"I know it is extremely tricky to break into the industry and am not holding my breath! Should you hear of any internships/production assistant roles could you please keep me in mind? In saying that I would be happy to be the coffee girl if it meant an in!"

Novak wants to keep making short films, and she has a few scripts in development, but she would love to produce again and we wish her the best of luck.  You can contact Tess at

Show me Shorts Goes International

Show me Shorts is now an Academy Award� qualifying film festival, and to top off that achievement  Gina Dellabarca, WIFT member and festival director, has been granted a scholarship from the German Foreign Office to represent Show Me Shorts in Europe. Gina's spending February at the Berlin International Film Festival (Berlinale), followed by the International Short Film Festival in Clermont-Ferrand. The festival is looking forward to attracting even more overseas entries to share with viewers in the Festival in November.
