The Screen Directors' and Editors' Guild, and the Equity Foundation, supported by the NZ Film Commission, are pleased to announce a new initiative, bringing professional actors and directors together to practise working with one another on scenes, in a private and supportive environment populated only by their fellow professionals.
The Rehearsal Room will be a series of regular collaborative events. Auckland has had its turn - now it's time for Wellington: Saturday March 8.
Each time, an experienced and highly respected industry practitioner will act as moderator. Actor and performance coach, Miranda Harcourt will moderate the first in each centre, with The Last Saint director (and Shortland St actor), Rene Naufahu, moderating the second session in Auckland on 12th April.
Says SDGNZ Executive Director, Fiona Copland: "The aim of The Rehearsal Room is to alleviate one of the key frustrations of directors and actors which is that they have so little opportunity to actually engage in their craft; to practise working together for their mutual benefit. Less than 24 hours into the launch of The Rehearsal Room, we already have literally dozens of registrations from people of all levels of experience." Copland added. "This is a great opportunity to bring dedicated people together to take control of their own professional development, to take risks in a supportive environment, and to learn a whole lot about one another's challenges and processes."
Equity Foundation Program Director, Phil Darkins echoed Copland's comments, adding, "To have professional organisations collaborating - working in harmony - like this, for the betterment of the whole industry, has long been the objective of Actors' Equity New Zealand. In time, we hope to include organisations that represent other entertainment industry professionals in this and many other professional development initiatives. This is a very exciting time for our industry." Darkins said.
The Rehearsal Room will run throughout 2014 in both Auckland & Wellington.
It is free to members of the Screen Directors' and Editors' Guild, Actors' Equity New Zealand and Ng? Aho Whakaari, thanks to the support of the NZ Film Commission.
