Script to Screen presents the  2014 South Auckland Short Film Workshop - a free two-day workshop that will give you everything you need to know to make a short film. Over one weekend, four experienced filmmakers will guide you through each stage of the filmmaking process - from the initial concept, writing, directing, casting and finally to pitch your idea.

We are looking for new talent from South Auckland with a passion for storytelling, and in interest in learning how to make a short film. Participants should be from South Auckland or have connections to the community.

You will hear from five experienced industry professionals who have all worked on some of New Zealand's most successful short and feature films; actor/writer/director  Rene Naufahu, who released his debut independent feature film  The Last Saint this year,  Michael Bennett, writer/director of  Matariki whose short film  Michelle's Third Novel was chosen to screen prior to the gala premier of Pulp Fiction at the 1994 New York Film Festival,  Zia Mandviwalla, whose debut short film  Night Shift premiered at Cannes in 2012, and has since gone on to win awards at numerous international film festivals,  Yvette Reid who cast the leading roles in acclaimed short film  Lambs and famously discovered Wayne Hapi for his role Ariki in  The Dark Horse, and actor/director  Rachel House, known for her roles in  White Lies Boy and  Whale Rider, Rachel has also worked behind the scenes as an acting coach on films including  Boy and  The Dark Horse, and is an award-winning theatre director known most recently for directing the Te Reo Maori version of Shakespeare's  Troilus and Cressida.

On Day 2 of the workshop, participants will be invited to pitch their short film idea to the group in a pitching competition, to a panel of industry mentors. Up to six winners will be chosen to participate in our  South Shorts Mentoring Programme.

You are encouraged to come with a short film idea, and any team members you might wish to work with.

Time: Saturday 9am - 4pm, Sunday: 10am - 4:30pm

Venue: MIT - Manukau School of Visual Arts, 50 Lovegrove Crescent, Otara 2023

Cost: The workshop is free. Please bring a $15 koha to cover lunch for the weekend. Refreshments will be provided.
