Script to Screen presents the 2014 South Auckland Short Film Workshop - a free two-day workshop that will give you everything you need to know to make a short film. Over one weekend, four experienced filmmakers will guide you through each stage of the filmmaking process - from the initial concept, writing, directing, casting and finally to pitch your idea.
SAT 29 / SUN 30 NOVEMBER, MIT SCHOOL OF VISUAL ARTS, OTARA
We are looking for new talent from South Auckland with a passion for storytelling, and in interest in learning how to make a short film. Participants should be from South Auckland or have connections to the community.
You will hear from five experienced industry professionals who have all worked on some of New Zealand's most successful short and feature films; actor/writer/director Rene Naufahu, who released his debut independent feature film The Last Saint this year, Michael Bennett, writer/director of Matariki whose short film Michelle's Third Novel was chosen to screen prior to the gala premier of Pulp Fiction at the 1994 New York Film Festival, Zia Mandviwalla, whose debut short film Night Shift premiered at Cannes in 2012, and has since gone on to win awards at numerous international film festivals, Yvette Reid who cast the leading roles in acclaimed short film Lambs and famously discovered Wayne Hapi for his role Ariki in The Dark Horse, and actor/director Rachel House, known for her roles in White Lies, Boy and Whale Rider, Rachel has also worked behind the scenes as an acting coach on films including Boy and The Dark Horse, and is an award-winning theatre director known most recently for directing the Te Reo Maori version of Shakespeare's Troilus and Cressida.
On Day 2 of the workshop, participants will be invited to pitch their short film idea to the group in a pitching competition, to a panel of industry mentors. Up to six winners will be chosen to participate in our South Shorts Mentoring Programme.
You are encouraged to come with a short film idea, and any team members you might wish to work with.
