Kick up your Heels! A Season of Dance Films At Nga Taonga

This week and next Nga Taonga (the Film Archive) has  a season of dance films that will get your feet twitching and your imagination firing - including a world premiere. All the films have been programmed as part of  Dance Season at Ng? Taonga Sound & Vision, 5-15 November 2014. All films shown at Ng? Taonga Sound & Vision, 84 Taranaki St, Wellington.

 

Hine - Ahu - One

NZ, 2014, film 9 min + reception 30 min, Exempt

Dance Wellington is delighted to host the opening of the Dance Wellington Festival 2014 at Ng? Taonga Sound and Vision. A free screening of Merenia Gray and Jeremy Bricks' new short dance film, Hine - Ahu - One, which was premiered at Tempo Dance Festival and received excellent reviews, will kickstart the event.

Hine - Ahu - One is inspired by the goddesses Hine - Ahu - One and Aphrodite. Both deities are born of the elements. Hine - Ahu - One is the first M?ori woman created by Tane on the beach at Kurawaka. Aphrodite is the Greek goddess of love, beauty, pleasure, and procreation.

Join us for a glass of wine after the screening of Hine - Ahu - One, before the screening of OneOneat 7pm.

This is the latest collaborative offering from Good Company Arts, Dunedin's groundbreaking and internationally acclaimed multidisciplinary visual arts powerhouse. At once timeless and contemporary,OneOne combines dance, sonic and visual elements to explore human culture and the natural world.

Giselle - The Movie

Toa Fraser (No. 2Dean Spanley) directs this visionary presentation of the Royal New Zealand Ballet's acclaimed production of Giselle. The film interweaves the classic story of love, eroticism and death with a contemporary tale of two dancers, separated by time and distance yet connected by their abiding love for each other.
