Submissions open for Chick Flick Festival

Women In Film Dallas is excited to announce submissions are now open for the 14th Annual Chick Flicks Film Festival. The Festival of short films will take place on Thursday, October 22 at the Angelika Film Center in Dallas.

The 2015 categories are Female Filmmakers and Short Flicks by Texas Chicks.

Female Filmmakers is open to shorts directed by a woman. Shorts are also eligible if women are in two (2) or more of the following above-the-line positions: writer, producer, director of photography or editor. Official selections in this category qualify for the Best of Fest Award and the Audience Choice Award.

Short Flicks by Texas Chicks requires all of the above and ties to Texas. Official selections in this category qualify for the Best of Fest Award, Texas Award, and Audience Choice Award.

WIFD members and Students (ID required) should enter in one of the two categories and pay the discounted fee.


All official selections will be notified the end of September/early October 2015.

Screenings will be held at the Angelika Film Center in Dallas.

The Best of Fest winner will receive a cash award.

The Texas Award winner will receive a cash award.

Audience Choice winners will receive prize packages.


We accept narrative, documentary, animated, and experimental short films in any genre with a runtime of 25 minutes or less. Films must have been completed after January 1st, 2011. No premiere status required.

Entries to Tropfest NZ 2016 were officially opened at a launch party held in Wellington in early July.

TAFT CEO Suzanne Porter and Tropfest International Managing Director Michael Laverty announced the prizes for the 2016 competition, which includes a cash prize of $10,000 for the winner.

Porter urged the launch guests, a mixture of professional filmmakers and industry heads to spread the Tropfest word and consider submitting a film. "The beauty of Tropfest is anyone can enter and anyone can win. Films don't need to have a huge budget, what we're looking for are outstanding stories told by New Zealanders."

First prize also includes a 5-day film immersion course in Los Angeles, where the winner will meet with film executives and key industry figures. The trip includes return flights, five nights' accommodation and $500 spending money, thanks to the continuing sponsorship of the Motion Picture Association and the NZ Screen Association.

Laverty, Managing Director of Tropfest International and Tropfest Australia, was impressed with the industry turn out for the launch. "Tropfest Australia is an iconic national event that attracts over 90,000 people to our main screening event. With the support I witnessed tonight I have no doubt the New Zealand festival will cultivate a similar following in years to come."

Tropfest NZ 2016 will be the fourth presentation of the competition and festival in New Zealand.

The competition provides sixteen talented filmmakers with the chance to kick start their careers. Past finalists have gone on to international festival success in North America, Europe and Australia.

Entry criteria is simple: films must be 7 minutes or less, and must include the Tropfest Signature Item (TSI) for 2016, which is DREAM. The TSI can be included in any way the filmmaker chooses.

Submitted films must have their worldwide premiere (including online) at Tropfest NZ.

The entry deadline for submissions is 6PM, Thursday 19 November 2015.

Tropfest NZ 2016 will be held at the TSB Bowl of Brooklands on Saturday 27 February 2016
