Music of Aotearoa: past, present and future

Posted Monday 11 May 2015

Top local music videos for your viewing pleasure.

Show Me Shorts is celebrating NZ Music Month by accepting NZ music video submissions to the SMS 2015 festival for free during May! They are  also showing you some top local music videos in the Screening Room, as chosen by festival Programming Assistant Rebekah Ngatae:

"Making a great music video is a little like making a great short film, and that's something New Zealanders excel at. So this month I took up the opportunity to highlight unique perspectives on Aotearoa through the musical imaginings of some of our best. The creators of these videos transport us through the lands of our ancestors, reveal a delightful cultural niche, and land us in a strange and wonderful dystopian future."

  • Trinity Roots: Little Things
  • Coco Solid: Heaven's Gate
  • Fat Freddy's Drop: Ray Ray

Read the post and watch the films here.

A programme of New Zealand short films from Show Me Shorts will play at

Excentris Movie Theatre in Montreal this month.

The line-up will include:

  • Coconut
  • Queenie
  • Dive
  • Uphill
  • In the Rubbish Tin
  • Eleven
  • Ross and Beth

Check out the screening details here. And be sure to encourage any friends in Montreal to  attend - 14 May at 9pm - Excentris Movie Theatre, 3536 boulevard Saint-Laurent, Montreal
