If you are in Wellington tonight you can hop

along to the Siapo Cinema Festival of Pasifika Moving Images

which launches this evening. Look out for a week of films, exhibitions,

live entertainment, music, dancing, lei-making, kai, and more

Lei-Making Workshops with The 3 Hawaiians

The 3 Hawaiians invite you to join them for a lei-making workshop. Emalani, Kawika, and Kamalani are kanaka maoli (native Hawaiians). The 3 Hawaiians are on their own path in New Zealand, but weaving in out of each other's lives every day. They are happy to share their gift of lei-making with you. Mahalo!

Kava Club's Chop Suey Hui followed by NZ premiere of ThuleTuvalu

Film: 2014, 98 min, Exempt, director Matthias von Gunten

At 6pm come and enjoy some of Kava Club's fabulous kai, and a panel discussion on Pasifika moving images. The panel will be a discussion with filmmakers Makerita Urale and Lala Rolls, facilitated by Dr Teresia Teaiwa.

The screening of ThuleTuvalu will follow at 7pm. This documentary looks at how global climate change affects two separate regions in different ways. As the ice melts in Thule, the island nation of Tuvalu is threatened by the resultant rising sea level.

Hotu Painu

Hotu Painu is a documentary on the history of nuclear testing in the Pacific - and its relationship with French colonialism in Tahiti (which locals claim has made them strangers or "Hotu Painu" in their own land).

Musika with Bill Sevesi and Jon Jonanssen is an evening of music and song, through a compilation programme of three short documentaries focusing on Pasifika musical output: Song of the South Seas - The Life and Music of Bill Sevesi (1992, director Chris Williams), Mou Piri: A Rarotongan Love Song (2013, director Karin Williams), and Bill Sevesi's Dream (2011, director Ying Ly).
