Congrtulations to WIFT member Claire Van Beek who has secured a place on the Short Film Lab 2015.
The Short Film Lab is a hothouse mentoring scheme for New Zealand writers to workshop fresh new ideas for short film. Each year the Lab offers six emerging short film makers the opportunity to develop their short film concepts and scripts with advice from experienced industry mentors. Show Me Shorts presents the Lab in partnership with Script to Screen, supported by NZFC and the University of Auckland. This year's mentors include Shuchi Kothari, Michael Bennett, Dustin Feneley and Emily Anderton.
Following a competitive entry process, selected participants and their creative collaborators take part in an intensive full day Lab in November. After the Lab, participants are offered the opportunity for further script development and mentorship.
This year the standard of applications was so high that the selection panel decided to offer eight positions instead of the standard six. According to screenwriter and selection panellist Kathryn Burnett, "This year's crop of applications caused a real headache for the selection panel because there were just so many interesting applications from a wide range of talents. Really great to see."
The 2015 Short Film Lab participants are:
1. Bernice Tuffery
2. Claire Van Beek
3. Finnius Teppett
4. Judah Finnigan
5. Lene Aiono
6. Oprah Oyugi
7. Paloma Schneideman
8. Tom Levesque
The Lab takes place on Saturday 7 November. Show Me Shorts Film Festival launches with its Opening and Awards Night on Wednesday 11 November at The Civic before spreading across the country throughout November. We wish Claire all the best for her time in the 'hothouse".
