Congratulations to Whetu Faia and Christina Asher on their new appointments.
With a film and television freelance career that spans over forty years, distinguished television and movie casting director, Christina Asher is looking forward to the challenges in leading the M?ori screen guild.
" Working on behalf of M?ori in the screen industry is a big responsibility. Growing up at the (Ratana) Pa, I saw first hand the hard graft of Mum, Dad and all my aunties and uncles, on behalf of the morehu. When we moved to Wellington, nanny Iriaka (Ratana) shared my room and after working all day in parliament, at night, she would hold meetings for our people. Mum and her were strong role models as advocates for our reo and culture and that is what Ng? Aho Whakaari has always stood for. "
Former Chair of the screen guild, Whetu Fala has resigned from the executive to take up a Director's role on the M?ori Television board and says " Christina as a long standing freelancer understands first hand the issues facing M?ori screen workers and she is well known and respected in our industry. I wish Christina and the very talented executive all the very best for the future and look forward to the next phase of what promises to be an exciting future for M?ori screen. "
