WOMEN IN FILM AND TELEVISION INTERNATIONAL (WIFTI) ANNOUNCES 11th ANNUAL SHOWCASE WINNERS

2016 Women in Film & Television International Short Film Showcase

Check out the NZ finalist from WIFT New Zealand, Director, Pat Robins for Food For Thought. We congratulations Pat for being part of the 11th Anniversary of the Showcase which was celebrated on International Women's Day, March 8, 2016 by WIFTI Chapters all over the world. The WIFTI SHORT-CASE is a powerful demonstration of of Chapters' members creativity, vision and artistry.  Founded in 2004, the Short-Case presents selected films from WIFTI Chapters around the world; some of the recent Short-Case short films have been nominated for Academy Awards, received distribution deals and garnered recognition internationally.  WIFTI encourages unique points of view and storytelling that focus on subjects/issues that concern women.

2016 WINNERS FOR WIFTI SHORT-CASE

WINNER:  BEST DOCUMENTARY (tie)
Minnesota WIFT | Director: Dawn Mikkelson | Shaping The Public

Synopsis: A story of how a determined diverse group of artists (from graffiti artists to acrobats) occupied a vacant lot in urban Caracas, Venezuela resulting in the Tiuna el Fuerte Cultural Park. This park, embedded in a community known for its druglords and poverty, is now home to a thriving arts scene receiving national and international acclaim.

WINNER:  BEST DOCUMENTARY (tie)
WIFT Louisiana | Director: Victoria Greene | Monster In The Bayou

Synopsis: A documentary, Monster in the Bayou is about a peaceful community located deep in the Louisiana swamps, and the giant sinkhole lurking, and threatening.

WINNER:  BEST ANIMATION
WIFT Germany | Director: Zainab Zaher | I Want To Be Shahmama

Synopsis: "I want to be Shahmama" based on true stories of two girls who were raped in 2014 Afghanistan.

WINNER:  BEST NARRATION
WIFV Washington DC | Director: Monda Webb | Zoo (Volkerschau)

Synopsis: "Zoo (Volkerschau)" is about a day in the life of an African Girl on display for the first time in a Human Zoo in 1958. Zoo is based on a photo taken at the World's Fair in Brussels, Belgium. It has won 7 U.S. and International Film Festival Awards including awards from Spain and Indonesia for Best Short (film), Best Script, Excellence Award and other categories.
