WIFT member wins first NZCS Award

Posted Tuesday 25 Oct 2016

We are delighted to offer warm congratulations to WIFT member Ginny Loane, who won NZCS Cinematographer of the Year for Mahana, at the inaugural NZ Cinematographers Society Awards recently. The film was directed and written by Lee Tamahori, who was on hand to offer his congratulations. Ginny Loane began attracting award nominations in 2006 thanks to Fog, one of many Loane-shot short films to make a mark overseas. By then Loane had already shot her first feature, Christmas. In 2013 she was praised for brothers tale Shopping the debut feature from Louis Sutherland and Mark Albiston.

"It's nice on set when there's a mix of people. I love it when there's a few more women on set. I love it when there's a few more ethnicities; when there's just a reflection of our society on set. It's much nicer. I mean no one wants to play in the sandpit alone with the same people, do they?" Ginny Loane, in a July 2015 interview for RNZ National.

We wish Ginny more success in her very promising career.
