WIFT member Lisa Brickell would love to see other members at her new play, Mockingbird - a show by women, about women, and in particular about post natal depression, based on Lisa'a own story and that of her female ancestors. But it's not a depressing play about depression. Her aim for the next stage of this show is to turn it into a film.
Lisa wrote the early stages of this as part of a Masters in Scriptwriting in 2013, and she has since developed it into a 60 minute piece with the help of Giovanni Fusetti who was one of her teachers at the Jacques Lecoq Theatre School in Paris, and Ruth Dudding, who also trained at Lecoq.
The show is being staged as part of Mental Health Awareness Week. It's on October 4-8 at 6.30pm at The Basement Theatre in Auckland City and on October 12 at 8pm at Te Pou Theatre.
There is a discounted rate for WIFT members ($18 instead of $24.) On Thurs 6 Oct, there will be a Q and A after the show. There is also a Q and A at Te Pou on Oct 12. Book early as seats are limited.
