Win tickets to the creatively comic 'Toni Erdmann'

Toni Erdmann

Hailed at Cannes as a brilliantly original comic masterpiece, Austrian writer/director Maren Ade's epic of parent-child dysfunction centres on a father assailing his uptight corporate daughter with crazy pranks. It was the hands-down audience favourite at Cannes, and is one of the front-runners for Best Foreign Language Film at the Academy Awards.

We're giving away five double passes to Toni Erdmann, in NZ cinemas from February 16.

Just watch the trailer and answer this simple question: What is the "stupid joke" that the father plays on his daughter?

Send your answer in the subject line to office@wiftnz.org.nz by 5pm Friday 10 February, 2017. Only winners will be notified.

Leanne Pooley included in New Year's Honours List

Posted Tuesday 07 Feb 2017

We had our holiday brain on last month, so many of you will already know this... but we still want to give a huge shout-out to long-time WIFTer Leanne Pooley, who was named an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit for "Services to Documentary Filmmaking" in the New Year's Honours List 2017.

Her documentaries have illuminated fascinating Kiwi characters and stories, from Haunting Douglas and Topp Twins - Untouchable Girls to Beyond the Edge. She continues to create innovative and acclaimed work: her latest, 25 April (pictured), made the 2017 Oscars longlist for best animated feature, and it's also making waves on the international festival circuit. Congratulations, Leanne!
