Hawaii Five-O stars quit due to pay inequality

Posted Sunday 09 Jul 2017

On the other side of the Pacific, a storm has broken, over pay equity for women and people of colour.

"Actors Daniel Dae Kim and Grace Park have decided to leave Hawaii Five-O after starring on the hit show for seven seasons due to pay inequality. The pair starred as Chin Ho Kelly and Kono Kalakaua, respectively, two of the show's lead characters. Without Kim and Park in Hawaii Five-O, there will be no Asian or Pacific Islander leads in a show set in Hawaii...

"Kim and Park have starred alongside Alex O'Loughlin and Scott Caan since 2010, yet reportedly made between 10 to 15 percent less than their white co-stars. When Kim and Park entered wage negotiations with CBS, they were offered raises that would not have closed that gap...

"Kim and Park's fight for equal pay highlights a greater issue in Hollywood: the need for equity not just in pay scales but also in casting opportunities for women and people of color in media."

NZOA looks for feedback on draft standard funding agreement

Posted Sunday 09 Jul 2017

The folks at NZ On Air (NZOA) have been busy little beavers, changing a lot of the documentation and processes for the start of the NZ Media Fund - which came into being on July 1, 2017.

The last of the key document changes is the introduction of a new Standard Funding Agreement (or contract) for Scripted and Factual content. NZOA hopes to use this contract from the July round, and would like to hear what y'all think of it. See info below about it, and about the September funding round.

"We've worked hard to create a single document that will be suitable for the variety of different types of content we will fund through the NZMF in the Scripted and Factual streams. We've tried to make it plain English and simple to follow. But it's a contract, so your brain may still hurt at various points.

The draft is now available on our website, along with a guide to the document to explain the changes from previous contracts.
