Gongs for Loane and Wells at Cinematographer Awards

Posted Tuesday 17 Oct 2017

A round of applause for Nina Wells and Ginny Loane for their wins at the NZCS Awards in Auckland on Saturday night. Loane's excellent work on the telemovie Jean won her the Gold award in the telefeatures category, while Nina's work on webseries Auckward Love (main cast pictured below) won her a bronze award and the Al Guilford Emerging Cinematographer Award. A longtime camera assistant, we think Wells is definitely on her way to achieving her dream of being one of New Zealand's top female cinematographers. However, that group is a small one right now; female winners numbered just three on Saturday night, with Danielle Sciascia picking up a bronze award for her student film Maximillian The Great.

WIN tickets to Maudie

Posted Tuesday 17 Oct 2017

We're also giving away tickets to Maudie, released in New Zealand tomorrow. Based on the true story of Canadian folk artist Maud Lewis, Maudie is an unlikely romance in which the reclusive Everett Lewis (Ethan Hawke) hires a fragile yet determined woman named Maudie (Sally Hawkins) to be his housekeeper. Maudie charts Everett's efforts to protect himself from being hurt, Maudie's deep and abiding love for this difficult man and her surprising rise to fame.

To go in the draw to win one of five double passes to Maudie, watch the trailer and answer this question:

Everett says, "Let me tell you how it is." What two animals does he mention after that?

Email your answer in the subject line to office@wiftnz.org.nz by 5pm Monday 23 October 2017.
