The German Film Festival is on and it's free

Here's your chance to enjoy some of the most thrilling recent films from Germany, Switzerland and Austria for free! The Goethe Institut is hosting New Zealand's 9th German Film Festival, which opens at Auckland's Academy on September 5 and will play in New Plymouth, Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin. All films will screen in German with English subtitles. Grab your tickets on the day (for screenings on that day only), but don't be late - first come, first served!

Bec Smith and Penny Win to speak at Big Screen Symposium 2017

We have some fantastic news for all of you who are going to the Big Screen Symposium! The BSS has signed up Bec Smith (pictured below right) and Penny Win (below left) as speakers. Bec is a literary agent and an independent film agent at United Talent Agency in Los Angeles and represents a client base of 50 writers and directors; as part of UTA's independent film group Bec also focuses on packaging, financing and selling indie films. She knows what it takes for a film to break through the noise and has hands-on experience with American vs foreign filmmaking and financing and has a stellar track record when it comes to signing clients.
And Penny Win (pictured below left), Foxtel's head of drama, will be joining the BSS drama panel. With experience in free-to-air and subscription television, and radio, Penny managed the running of Foxtel's drama channels from 2007 to 2014. She was appointed head of drama in 2014 to focus on the local production slate.
