Waru directors take on The Female Gaze

The Kiwi directors of Waru made an impression on film journalist Gill Pringle at the The Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) where Waru premiered in the Discovery section. In her blog for The Female Gaze, Pringle describes them as a "boisterous" and "lively tribe" who "don't shy away from a tough conversation". Pringle's blog also celebrates the fact that the film highlights a number of women's voices.
"They never really expected to find enough Maori women to do it and they ended up with 50 applications," explains one director, Paula Jones.
