WIFTer double successes with Waru

Posted Tuesday 05 Sep 2017

A double round of applause for the team of Waru, produced by WIFT-er Kerry Warkia, and Kiel McNaughton. Waru will open Toronto's imagineNATIVE Film and Media Arts Festival, the world's largest presenter of indigenous screen content, and has been selected for the Discovery section in the Toronto International Film Festival. Directed by eight M?ori women, the film tells the story of Waru, a young boy who dies at the hands of his caregiver. Each director, including WIFT members Chelsea Cohen, Ainsley Gardiner and Katie Wolfe, tackles a ten-minute segment of the film to create one complete, remarkable story through the lens of multiple family and community members as they deal with the horrific loss.
ImagineNATIVE 2017 runs from 18-22 October, 2017.
