BSS tunes into the zeitgeist

We can't wait to see what creative magic comes from the theme for this year's Big Screen Symposium! The these this year is about tuning into the Zeitgeist and explores the forces that influence us - collectively and alone. How do the characteristics of our age and the politics of now manifest in our imaginations, and how does that impact the stories we tell and how they connect with audiences? Come along and find out what your contemporaries think. This year the BSS will be held in Auckland's beautiful ASB Waterfront Theatre.

We're hugely excited to see this event on the calendar! Join other inspirational wahine in the arts to debate and discuss issues facing women in contemporary Aotearoa at Speak Up! an Auckland Live event on 8 September. You, dear members, may be particularly interested in the Controlled Detonation session (!), a discussion inspired by the women protesting in Cannes this year about the underrepresentation and conditions of women in the film industry. The talk will cover film, comedy, production and theatre, and feature the wonderful Nancy Brunning, Miriama McDowell and Alison Quigan on the panel. Speak Up! will feature 23 incredible women from the creative industries, and you'll hear their insights and experiences on issues like balancing family and work,  about consent, and about creating opportunities for leadership. WIFT members get a 20% discount on all individual sessions and on the full day pass.
