We're looking forward to the release of Dorthe Scheffman's first feature film, Vermilion, due for release in New Zealand on 8 November. Scheffman wrote, directed and produced the film, and a number of Wifters are also involved: producer Michele Fantl, DOP Maria Ines Manchego, foley editor / foley mixer Amy Barber, and actor Theresa Healey. Filmed in the Auckland suburb of Ponsonby, Vermilion stars Jennifer Ward-Lealand (pictured below) as Darcy, a celebrated musician and composer in her fifties, and the group of women closest to her. Darcy sees colours when she plays musical notes, a condition known as synaesthesia. When she notices her vision is disrupted by the colour vermilion, she knows she needs help. While planning the wedding of her daughter, surrounded by her loving friends, she secretly makes her own plans.
