Doc Edge and Rei Foundation funding docos for a youthful audience

Here's an exciting opportunity and challenge for documentary makers! Doc Edge, in partnership with Rei Foundation Limited is offering the Rangatahi Film Fund, an innovative new fund for short documentaries for the next generation - our youth. The fund is among the first of its kind in the world, established especially to support documentaries that are made for audiences aged 11 - 1 7 years. It is open to both NZ and international filmmakers with screen experience and credits. In 2019, up to $80,000 NZD will be available to support the production of four short documentaries (ideally two from New Zealand and two international) with the potential to increase the funding to $120,000 NZD for up to six films in the following year.

The year is 2000 and Joan Stanley is living in contented retirement in suburbia. But her tranquil life is disrupted when she's arrested by MI5 and accused of providing intelligence to Communist Russia. Cut to 1938 where Joan is a Cambridge physics student who falls for young communist Leo Galich and through him, begins to see the world in a new light. Working at a top-secret nuclear research facility during WWII, Joan realises the world is on the brink of mutually assured destruction. She must choose between betraying her country and loved ones or saving them. Starring Dame Judi Dench, Sophie Cookson, directed by Trevor Nunn and with a screenplay by Lindsay Shapero.
