Victory for creative sector as European Parliament approves controversial EU copyright reforms

The European Parliament has voted in favour of the Directive on Copyright in the Digital Single Market, which has wide-reaching implications for content creators and online platforms, reports Screen Daily. The reforms update 20-year-old, pre-digital era EU copyright legislation and aim to ensure that professionals across all the creative industries are paid fairly for their work. However, opponents of the reforms, believe the directive could hinder the exchange of information and content on the internet and cut some smaller players out of the picture.
