Paid mentorship scheme for emerging filmmakers

Here's a hot opportunity for emerging filmmakers! The NZ Advertising Producers Group, in association with the NZ Film Commission, is seeking applicants for a three-month mentorship programme aimed at supporting female directors. The chosen four applicants will intern at five leading New Zealand commercial film production companies - Exit, Sweetshop, Thick as Thieves, Flying Fish, and Finch. The NZFC will support the four successful applicants with awards of $10,000 each over the course of the mentorship. This new programme will offer an immersive experience in the highly focused craft of commercial film workflows - from treatment writing and pitching, casting, storyboarding, shooting, through to post-production.
Applications need to be in by Friday 26 July.

Nominated for the Palme d'Or at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival Girls of the Sun is an inspirational war story like no other. Directed by Eva Husson, the film begins somewhere in Kurdistan where Bahar (Golshifteh Farahani), commander of the 'Girls of the Sun' battalion, is preparing to liberate her hometown from the hands of extremists, hoping to find her son who is held hostage. A French journalist, Mathilde (Emmanuelle Bercot), comes to cover the attack and bear witness to the story of these exceptional warriors. Since their lives have been turned upside down, they have all been fighting for the same cause: Women, Life, Liberty.
