Women directors made Oscar-worthy films this year! Here's what they think about not being recognised, and where they're carving out space instead. Jane Campion shares her thoughts on Hollywood's conservative attitude, and there's an interesting case study on Tamara Jenkins, whose third feature, Private Life, starring Kathryn Hahn and Paul Giamatti, was been lauded by critics and cited as a film worthy of a best director nomination...which it didn't get.

Get in quick for Raupapa Whakaari funding for your drama series

Calling writers and producers: applications close on 18 March at 9am for the Raupapa Whakaari-funded 5-day Series Drama Lab - don't miss this unique opportunity to develop your series drama project. Raupapa Whakaari is a new initiative designed to develop and package distinctive high-end series drama for the international market, presented by the New Zealand Film Commission and NZ On Air in conjunction with Script to Screen. Up to 10 teams will be awarded a place on the Series Drama Lab along with initial development funding of $10,000. The Series Drama Lab is five-days of intensive story and market input from high-level international advisors.  Following the Lab, teams can submit a re-worked project and packaging plan. There are grants of up to $80,000 available to enable four of the series to be taken to the international market place.

The Lab runs from June 10 -15, 2019.
