Sydney Film Festival features strong Kiwi presence

Posted Tuesday 28 May 2019

A big shout out to the many WIFT members who are being celebrated across the ditch in the upcoming Sydney Film Festival! The programme for the 66th Sydney Film Festival has been released and New Zealand features prominently as the Festival's country of focus with eight feature films and six shorts selected this year. There are just too many Wifters to mention individually so here's a big group congratulations to you all!

And we're thrilled to add that Dame Gaylene Preston is on the Official Jury for the SFF. She has a long association with the Festival, which has screened her films Ruby & Rata (1991) War Stories (1995), Home By Christmas (2010) and the world premiere of My Year with Helen in 2017.

We're looking forward to seeing this new local webseries produced by Craig Gainsborough and featuring Rene Sheridan, which has wrapped principal photography this month. With a five-episode story arc, the debut season of R?rangi will explore issues that directly affect the trans community, including important conversations about mental health, familial tensions, and the impact we have on the environment.
