Directors Toolkit workshop with Charlie Haskell

Posted Saturday 26 Oct 2019

Deepen your knowledge of the craft in this two-day workshop in Wellington, run by DEGNZ. Experienced director Charlie Haskell (pictured in action below) will provide a practical guide to emerging directors as to what the craft of directing is really all about. It will cover such topics as understanding the script, telling the story visually, inspiring great performances and running an inspirational set. There will be an emphasis on effective communication and how to get the best out of the creative team, and of course, how to deal with the ticking clock. Charlie has been a freelance director for the past 25 years, initially specialising in action as a Second Unit Director before moving on to drama. He has directed on a wide variety of local and international productions, such as Power Rangers, The Almighty Johnsons, telefeature Tangiwai - A Love Story and docudrama Pirates of the Airwaves. Recently, Charlie directed two episodes of the Danish/NZ co-production Straight Forward, as well as being lead director on Germany/NZ co-production The Gulf.

Phipps crowdfunds for Strike For Climate The Film

Posted Saturday 26 Oct 2019

Support a fellow Wifter - and the environment! Nia Phipps is working on #Strike4climate - The Film, a documentary that tracks five teenagers as they lead the action in the Strike for Climate protests. This observational feature-length documentary tracks the humour, frustration, fear and extraordinary capacity of the young leaders as they work towards the ultimate global climate strike on 27 September 2019. The crew, which includes co-director and co-producer Niva Kay and co-director Emily McDowell, follows these young leaders in observational style as they meet politicians, lawyers, councillors, unions and historians, and as they plan and strategise with their local school strike groups. Right now the doco needs funding for editing purposes.
