Wifters nominated for Show Me Shorts 2019

We were thrilled to see that female filmmakers have taken out all the nominations in four of the eight award categories for the Show Me Shorts awards! Here's the breakdown: four women are nominated for the DEGNZ Best Director award; three female writers are nominated for the Final Draft Best Screenplay award; and four actresses are nominated for their outstanding performances in competition for the Toi Whakaari Best Actor award. "Happily, this year nearly half the 63 films selected for this year's Show Me Shorts are directed by women. So we are moving in the right direction," festival director Gina Dellabarca said.

Directing in the intimate zone Christchurch workshop

Here's your chance to learn more about directing actors in scenes that involve intimacy, nudity and simulated sex in this DEGNZ-organised one-day workshop with Louise Leitch. The workshop will discuss with and work with actors on the process of developing an intimate scene for the screen using the best practice guidelines developed by UK intimacy coordinator Ita O'Brien, who was brought over by Equity to run training workshops in Auckland in late 2018. DEGNZ members can either apply for one of four places for directors to participate, or register to observe. Registrations close: Thursday 24 October at 3pm.

When: Saturday 23 November, 2019 from 9am - 5pm
Where: Rangi Ruru Girls' School, 59 Hewitts Rd, Merivale, Christchurch
Cost: DEGNZ / Equity members are free, non-members are $75
