Emmy Award winning showrunner to headline 2019 SPADA conference

Exciting news from SPADA: Jenji Kohan, creator of the award-winning Netflix drama Orange Is The New Black, will be headlining this year's SPADA Conference! A Los Angeles native, Kohan (pictured above) is an award- winning writer, producer and showrunner with a screen career spanning twenty five years. Starting out as a writer on The Fresh Prince Of Bel Air, Kohan went on to write episodes for Mad About You, Will & Grace, Sex And The City and Gilmore Girls. She was also the creator of the Showtime dark comedy-drama TV series Weeds, which she executive produced as showrunner and head writer throughout its entire eight-season airing. Orange Is The New Black ran for 91 episodes and seven seasons, and has garnered a slate of awards - 16 Emmy nods and four wins, as well as recognition at the BAFTAs, Golden Globes and Screen Actors Guild Awards.

New venue and new host for Huawei NZ TV Awards

The Huawei New Zealand Television Awards are back in 2019 with a new host and a new Gala venue. Fresh from her recent stint at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, comedian Alice Snedden (pictured below) will host this year's ceremony (Alice is the 2018 New Zealand Television Award-winner for Best Script: Comedy). Judging across 38 awards categories is now well underway and the event organisers say they've received more than 500 submissions - more than any previous year. Finalists will be announced on Thursday 24 October, and the Awards Gala will be held on Thursday 21 November at the Aotea Centre in Auckland. The local screen industry's artisans and technicians will be honoured at the New Zealand Television Craft Awards held on Wednesday 6 November at GridAKL.
