WIFTI summit (Wednesday 2 October)
Women in Film and Television International is hosting the 2019 WIFTI summit in Auckland, Aotearoa New Zealand on 2 October as an adjunct to The Power of Inclusion summit. The overall theme for the WIFTI summit is 'Connection, knowledge and visibility' under the headline 'Join the global movement!' The programme features a moderated conversation with Philippa Boyens, Academy Award-winning New Zealand writer of The Lord of the Rings trilogy and co-producer and writer of King Kong, The Hobbit trilogy and The Lovely Bones. The WIFTI summit also includes seminars about the programmes: 10% for 50/50, WIFTI Talks and HerFlix. It will also include workshops, and most importantly, it offers great networking! All attending chapters will present themselves, financing opportunities, numbers and gender incentives from their regions or countries.
The Power of Inclusion summit (Aotea Centre, Auckland, Aotearoa New Zealand) will bring people together, presenting myriad world views and positing future action to create a more inclusive industry and world; all enveloped in the special environment that Aotearoa New Zealand and its peoples have to offer. The programme includes keynotes from actor and activist Yara Shahidi, along with Academy Award-nominated producer Heather Rae and equality advocate Magda Szubanski. Panels will span history makers discussing what's next to achieve true representation in front of and behind the camera, and acclaimed indigenous practitioners sharing their stories of reclaiming cultural power through the lens. 'In conversations with' sessions include acclaimed creators Niki Caro (Whale Rider, The Zookeeper's Wife, Mulan), Philippa Boyens (The Lord of the Rings trilogy, King Kong, The Lovely Bones) and Steven Canals (POSE).
