In a climate where many film festivals are cancelling or postponing, Doc Edge is moving its full 2020 festival and industry event programme online. The festival, traditionally presented in Auckland and Wellington, will now be available to everyone in Aotearoa, and at this stage organisers (some of whom are pictured above) say it will be in June. They're even planning to host an actual awards presentation afterward - but you'll have to supply your own champagne. By taking the festival online, Doc Edge intends to reimagine the collective experience of the Festival by creating digital spaces for interaction and conversation, including the popular Q&A sessions with filmmakers.
Cannes has been postponed to June or July, while the Tribeca Film Festival plans to debut some online programming after postponing its public events. Meanwhile South by Southwest, in Texas, was closed by the city of Austin just a week before its mid-March opening. Doc Edge will announce its programme in the coming weeks, so watch this space!
